Monroe Chosen for Prestigious State Economic Development Program
The City of Monroe is proud to announce its 74-acre Expressway Commerce Park has been selected as part of the prestigious Selectsites Readiness Program (SRP), administered by the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC). This project is one of just 15 sites selected among 64 applicants across North Carolina.
“We are incredibly excited to be selected for the Selectsites Readiness Program and to receive this important support from the state," said Monroe City Manager Mark Watson. "We look forward to new high-paying jobs and career opportunities for our Monroe residents as a result of developing this site. This project highlights our commitment to deliver a strong economy. This industry-ready project would not be possible without the planning and investment of past and present City Council leadership.”
The North Carolina General Assembly established this program in 2023 and aims to enhance the state’s competitiveness in attracting major manufacturing projects in key industries. The program provides state funding to support critical site assessments, including road and infrastructure improvements, environmental studies, and utility engineering.
Expressway Commerce Park is strategically located between N. Sutherland Avenue and W. Roosevelt Boulevard and zoned for light industrial use.
The EDPNC Board chose Expressway Commerce Park following a rigorous evaluation process that included a comprehensive technical and engineering assessment, along with analysis of workforce availability, site development costs, and overall operating costs. These factors position the site as a highly competitive location for future industrial projects.
The City of Monroe will continue its partnership with the state to prepare business-ready sites for development and to achieve the highly sought after "North Carolina Certified Site" status, a designation that will enhance the site’s appeal to potential investors and manufacturers.
This partnership underscores the City’s commitment to economic growth, job creation, and maintaining its position as a regional leader in industrial development.
